Counsellors in private practice
Counselling website design built with care, clarity and trust
Counselling website design is really about the first message. I write every word with you rather than filling a template, and because I work in SEO, people searching for counselling nearby can actually find your practice. The affordable, human site I build explains your approach in plain words, answers fee and session questions, and makes that first contact feel small and safe for someone who is finding things hard.

The first message
The hardest email anyone sends.
For many people, contacting a counsellor is one of the hardest messages they will ever write. They draft it, delete it and come back to it days later. Some never send it at all.
Every part of your website can make that moment easier. Words that say they do not need to explain everything yet. A form that asks for very little. A clear promise about when you will reply and how.
I design counselling sites around that moment. The contact form is short, the message box is optional, and a line reassures people they can simply write "I would like to talk about starting counselling".
Small details like that are easy to overlook, and they are often the difference between a site that looks nice and a site that brings you clients.
Writing about your work
Your approach, without the textbook
Most clients do not know what "person-centred" or "psychodynamic" means. They want to know what it will be like to sit in the room with you.
Start with the feeling
Describe the experience first: being listened to without judgement, going at their pace, having space to think out loud.
Then the theory, briefly
Name your approach once, with a sentence of explanation, for the clients who do want to know.
Name what you help with
Grief, relationships, low mood, feeling stuck. Everyday words, so someone recognises themselves in the list.
Practical details
The facts that remove hesitation
These are the answers people look for before they write to you. I give each one a clear, calm home on the site.
| Membership and ethics | Your professional body, such as BACP or NCPS, your membership level and a link to check it. Mention the ethical framework you follow. |
|---|---|
| Fees and concessions | Session fee, length and any reduced-fee places, stated plainly. |
| Where and how | In person, online, by phone or walk-and-talk. Include access information for your room. |
| How often, how long | Weekly sessions, open-ended or short-term work, and how endings are handled. |
| Confidentiality | What stays private, and the limited situations where it might not. |
Building it together
An unhurried process, at your pace
Many counsellors feel uneasy writing about themselves. I take that part off your hands.
- 01
A conversation
You tell me how you work and who you help, in your own words.
- 02
I draft the words
I write every page in a warm, careful voice that sounds like you.
- 03
You refine it
You change anything that does not feel right, ethically or personally.
- 04
Quietly live
I launch the site, test the form and check it on real phones.
Your photo and your voice
Helping clients sense who you are
A natural photograph
Not a corporate headshot. A relaxed photo in good light, ideally in the room where you work, helps people imagine sitting with you.
Write as you speak
The voice on your website should match the voice in your sessions. I draft in your words, from our conversation, not from a template.
Keep it honest
No promises that counselling will fix everything. Gentle, realistic language is more reassuring than bold claims.

What should a counsellor's about page include?
Why you became a counsellor, how you work, the people you most often help and a natural photo. Keep it warm and personal rather than a list of qualifications. Your training belongs there too, but near the end.
How do I explain person-centred or integrative counselling simply?
Describe what it feels like for the client rather than the theory. "I will not tell you what to do. I will help you work out what you want" says more to most people than a definition of the approach.
Should I mention low-cost or concession places?
If you offer them, yes, clearly and without making anyone feel awkward. Cost is one of the biggest reasons people delay counselling. A sentence saying concession places are available can be the reason someone gets in touch.
Can the website help with EAP or insurance referrals?
Yes. A short section explaining which employee assistance programmes or insurers you work with, and how the referral process works, saves time for everyone.
What does a counselling website cost?
From £590 for a Starter Website, £1,250 for a Business Website with pages for how you work, fees and the first session, and £1,750 for Website + Visibility with local SEO. No hidden costs.
