For owner-led businesses
Small business website design that builds trust and brings enquiries
My small business website design is for owners who want a professional, affordable site without learning a website builder or paying agency prices. What makes me different is that you deal with one person who handles the SEO, the copy and the design together, so nothing gets lost between a designer, a writer and a marketer. Your site looks credible on day one and keeps bringing in calls, bookings or emails.

The ten-second test
A new visitor gives your website about ten seconds. In that time it has five jobs.
- Say what you doIn the customer's words, not trade jargon. "Birthday cakes made to order" beats "bespoke confectionery solutions".
- Say where you do itYour town or area, near the top. Local customers want to know you cover them before they read anything else.
- Show that you are realA face, a photo of your work, a review, a qualification. Something a template cannot fake.
- Hint at priceA "from" price or a clear explanation of how you quote. Silence on price makes people assume the worst.
- Make the next step obviousOne main action, repeated where it makes sense. Call, book, order or ask.
- Load fast on a phoneMost of your visitors are on mobile, often outside, often on a weak signal. Slow sites lose them quietly.
Why owner-led businesses are different
You are the business. Your site should feel like it.
Big companies can hide behind a brand. Small ones win because people trust the person behind them. In my experience, the best small business websites lean into that rather than pretending to be a corporation.
People buy from people
An honest paragraph about who you are and why you do the work often does more for enquiries than any design flourish. I help you write it without it sounding like a dating profile.
Your time is the scarcest thing
You should not spend evenings wrestling with a page builder. I need a call, a few answers and some photos. I handle the rest and show you drafts as I go.
Most customers are local
Your area, your opening hours and your reviews matter more than clever animation. I put the local details where Google and people both expect them.
Every enquiry counts
A small business cannot afford a website that just sits there. Each page earns its place by answering a real question and pointing to a next step.
The pages most small businesses need
A typical small business site has five pages. Each one has a clear job. This is roughly how I plan them, although every business bends the plan a little.
| Page | Its job |
|---|---|
| Home | Say what you do, where, and for whom. Show proof and point to the right service or straight to contact. |
| Services | One page per main service, so each one can rank for its own search and answer its own questions. |
| About | The human bit. Who you are, why you started, what customers can expect when they deal with you. |
| Proof | Reviews, before-and-after photos, qualifications or case studies. Sometimes this lives on other pages instead. |
| Contact | Phone, email, form, map and opening hours, with a line about how quickly you reply. |
Not sure which parts you need? That is exactly what the free call is for.
Small business prices
Affordable packages, fixed before we start.
Small business budgets are real budgets. I quote a fixed price after the call, and it does not change unless you ask for something new.

Getting found locally
Your website and your Google profile should tell the same story.
When someone searches for a local service, Google leans heavily on your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your website together. If those three disagree about your name, address, phone number or services, you make its job harder.
So I set up your site with consistent business details, a clear page for each service, sensible titles and descriptions, and SEO-ready structure underneath. None of it is magic. It is simply the groundwork most small business sites skip.
If you want more help after launch, my SEO consultancy, Found First, can take it further. There is no pressure to do so. A well-built site with a good Google profile already puts you ahead of many local competitors.

Example concepts
Three small businesses, three different moods.
Fictional businesses, labelled as such. Each shows how the same approach adapts to a different kind of owner and customer.
A high-street bakery
Opening hours up top, cake orders one tap away, and warm colours that match the shop window.
A canal-side café
Menu, hours and directions first. The things people actually open a café website to find.
A one-person joinery business
Craft-led photos and plain promises about tidy sites and honest timings. Websites for tradesmen
How many pages does a small business website need?
Usually fewer than people think. A home page, one page per main service, an about page and a contact page cover most small businesses. I would rather build five pages that each do a job than fifteen that repeat each other.
I only have a few photos. Is that a problem?
No. Good design can carry a site with very few photos, and I can use carefully chosen stock where it fits. If you can take a handful of honest photos of your work, your premises or yourself, those will beat any stock image for trust.
Can I update the website myself?
Most owners only change a few things a year: prices, opening hours, the odd new photo. I will talk you through the options on the call. Small changes are quick for me to make, and I can set things up so the parts you change often are easy to reach.
Do I need a Google Business Profile as well?
If customers come to you or you serve a local area, yes. Your profile and your website should back each other up, with the same name, address, phone number and services. The Website + Visibility package includes guidance on setting it up properly.
What if my business is just me?
Then your website should say so with confidence. Plenty of customers prefer dealing with the owner. I write sole-trader sites in a way that makes "just me" sound like the advantage it usually is.
